How do you make your website stand out from the rest?

Posted by Dave R. - in Guides

Been considering how to put the content on your website that you want people to know, it is important to understand how certain links will help people navigate your site more appropriately. A list of links on the website may not do a lot to get people to navigate to where you want them to go and most importantly where they want to go. It is a proven fact that most people did not read on the Internet, instead these skim articles and information to see if they can find what they're looking for.

Creating a link on your web pages is done with the code and the best links utilize text that is related to the place where the link as taking them. When your link shows up after using the code you will then see it as blue text, sometimes may be another, but most the time it will be blue. This allows the text to stand out to the reader and if seems as if it will take them to where they want to go, they will click on the link to see what you have to offer on that page.

To say that it is necessary for your home page to have links it is an understatement. Your links should be as interesting as possible but the same time make the reader understand clearly where they will be going if they click on it. The only time that your homepage will not need links is if it is only a one page website and this is very rare. Even in this day and age, there are many people who are leery of clicking on a link from a web site if they are not positive of the information that they will obtain by doing so.

Just as fashion changes constantly, so does technology and all of the graphics and styles that we can put on our web pages. For this reason, it is important for any designer, and even if you aren't a designer, to keep up with the changing trends in popular font styles and colors so that a website can be attractive and one that seems to be in tune with what their customers expect.

Some people may not think that fonts or colors are that important but the truth is, how the site is designed will go a long way in gaining new customers and keeping established ones. It is important, however, to keep your navigation somewhat the same so that when you're established customers comeback they will know exactly what were they need to click in order to find information that they're looking for.

It is true that some things on the website do need to remain the same, but that doesn't mean that a site cannot keep up with popular culture to be more with the times. It really doesn't take a lot to do this, especially if you hire a graphic designer. These professionals seem to know exactly what to do and when to do it.

Do not upload copyrighted texts when making a website!

It is true that the information that we find on the Internet is becoming vast and comprehensive more and more every day. It is easy to get excited over an idea or product to the point where we want to promote it online and even though there may be millions of other people out there with those same ideas and products, we can still jump on the so-called bandwagon and compete with them as long as we are abiding by the rules.

The biggest rule we need to follow is the rule of copyright. It really is not as complicated as what some people may seem. The simple fact is that if you use an article, graphic or any sort of data that was not completed by yourself, then you must get permission and sometimes pay the person for the rights to use it. There is a big misconception in the world over copyrights. People feel that if something is online that they can automatically use it. This is simply not the case and people who utilize the work of others without permission can find themselves in a world of trouble.

The general rule of thumb to live by it is to understand that if you are not sure whether or not you can use something that someone else created, you probably cannot use it without their permission. Many things that are online which are copyrighted may not seem like they would be some of those things are stories, pictures, blueprints, song lyrics, articles, movies, sound recordings, the list goes on. It is up to you to find out what is copyrighted and what isn't. Basically, anything that someone has created and published is copyright material.
